Today I want to talk about Metformin. If you have #Type2diabetes or #prediabetes, chances are you know what Metformin is… because it’s the most commonly prescribed medication for these conditions!
As a pharmacist, I get a lot of questions about #Metformin. Usually, people are worried about its side effects. But from time to time, people who are about to take Metformin for the first time will also ask:
“How long do I have to take Metformin for?“
I have to admit: this is one of my favorite questions to answer!
Most healthcare professionals will tell you that diabetes treatment is for life.
But I say that you have a choice to make… You can decide that you want to treat your diabetes. Or you can decide that you want to reverse it.
Let me explain the difference!
Treating diabetes usually means that you are trying to manage your blood sugar levels with Metformin (and a handful of other meds) while continuing to not take care of yourself, eating poorly, and barely doing any physical activity.
Attempting to reverse your diabetes means that you are not just taking a bunch of pharmaceuticals to manage your blood sugar. You are also trying to attack the problem at its root cause by taking care of yourself, eating better, moving more, sleeping better and managing your stress.
The second option -attempting to reverse your diabetes-, sometimes works so well that you end up getting rid of your meds. Either some or all of them!
That’s the part of my job that I love most: helping people get off their meds, gradually and safely!
Yes, it’s possible! Of course, not everyone can reverse diabetes and stop all their meds. BUT making lifestyle changes is essential for EVERYONE living with Type 2 diabetes.
That’s exactly why my team and I have developed Outsmarting Type 2 diabetes. This course will empower you to take control of your health and improve the quality of your life. Who wouldn’t want that?
For some of you, the knowledge you will gain will help you make the habit changes necessary to someday gradually and safely get off your meds. And I will be there to cheer you on the whole time!
Diabetes treatment doesn’t have to be for life.
You get to decide how you want to attack the diabetes in your life:
– With meds only
– OR with meds + lifestyle habit changes that can someday help you get rid of your meds safely.
If you choose the second option, you can start right here and right now:
Much love,
